The BASDO was established on July 15, 2010, in response to the prolonged humanitarian and development challenges facing communities in Somalia.

Implement community-based projects addressing climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable natural resource management, including water and soil conservation.
2. Community Security
Strengthen local community security systems by promoting early warning mechanisms, conflict prevention, and building strong linkages between communities and local authorities.
3. Protection
Safeguard vulnerable groups, including women, children, and displaced populations, by providing protection services, awareness campaigns, and community-based support programs.
4. Women’s Empowerment
Enhance women’s socio-economic status through vocational training, income-generating activities, leadership development, and active participation in decision-making processes.
5. Peacebuilding
Facilitate dialogue, reconciliation, and community-led peace initiatives to resolve conflicts, promote social cohesion, and foster sustainable harmony among communities.
6. Education
Promote literacy, vocational training, and skills development for youth and adults to increase access to quality education and reduce illiteracy.
7. Health and Nutrition
Improve access to healthcare services, particularly maternal and child health (MCH), nutrition programs, and emergency health interventions.
8. Community Awareness and Capacity Building
Raise awareness and build community capacities for self-reliance, participation in decision-making, and strengthening civil society structures to support sustainable development.
